Shoe brand Crocs has announced it will be closing its last two manufacturing facilities in a bid to ‘increase profits’.
The comfortable foam clog has been a topic of many debates since they launched 16 years ago, with some people absolutely loving them, others asking: ‘What are those?’. If you know, you know.
Crocs has now announced it will be shutting down a factory in Mexico and another in Italy as it begins outsourcing production in the search for greater profits.
The brand also announced it will be closing its ‘less productive retail stores’ as their leases expire, and will be focusing more on online sales.
Crocs, which has closed 28 of its 558 worldwide stores, plans to close another 132 stores by the end of this year.
Chief Finance Officer, Carrie Teffner, announced she will be leaving Crocs at the end of March 2019 and will be replaced by Anne Mehlman, of Zappos.com.
Crocs were catapulted into the world of high fashion when Balenciaga started parading platform versions down the catwalk.
According to Balenciaga:
Balenciaga casts the classic Croc slipper in a punk-ish new light for SS18.
In a whimsical bubblegum-pink hue, the front is decorated with a selection of irreverent pop-culture charms including logo plaques, avocados, flags, and pug faces to create an effect like a fridge of souvenir magnets.
Take advantage of the high platform sole to lift an ankle-skimming dress.
The chunky Balenciaga/Croc collab saw pairs of shoes for £645, much more than the modest price-tag on a standard pair. But then they are Balenciaga, darling.
As well as the heavily-embellished platforms, Balenciaga also launched a Crocs stiletto fairly recently. They look like a rubbery, pink Barbie shoe with, yet again, heavy embellishment.
